Bonnie Cashin - Founder of Coach - Her Reputation Grows

As the designer of costumes for the famous Roxy Theater in New York, Bonnie Cashin was beginning to get noticed and her unique design ability was brought to the attention of an executive at 20th Century Fox. He was interested in having her design costumes and outfits for the company’s movies and in 1944 Bonnie moved back to California and began her work in the exciting film industry.

For nearly a decade, she designed costumes for 20th Century Fox and was extremely productive during this time frame. She worked on over sixty movie productions, designing costumes for films such as Laura, Anna and the King of Siam and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

She continued to design on the side and won the prestigous Neiman Marcus and Coty Fashion Critic’s awards for the first display offering of her own designs and it was here that she first started experimenting with different handbag designs, a sign of things to come.
