Light Shows
I remember the first time I saw a strobe light. Like most kids, once I started playing with it, you couldn’t get me to stop. If you have one of these lights in your home, you might find that your kids have a ball playing with it, and you might even have some fun yourself. My cousins and I took it into a dark room and marveled at all the silly things we could do with it.
A strobe light is something that you usually see in clubs and in music videos, but you can buy cheap ones to have in your home. They use fast flashes of light to help create an illusion. For the most part, it makes things appear to move in a jerky or mechanical motion, and for kids, this can add up to hours and hours of giggles and laughter. You can find a small but powerful strobe light if you want to have one for your kids to play with. You may have good luck if you look online for music or lighting supplies, or you may want to look on eBay. You can find new and used models on there, and you can also find a great price if you bide your time.
There is a problem with them for some people though. If you or one of your children has had problems with seizure activities, the strobe light may cause an episode. I’m not sure how big the danger might be, but you may not want to take your chances with it. The pulse of light is something like what a video game might produce. Some children cannot be around a strobe light or play video games for very long for this very reason.
If you are in a band and want to use a strobe light in your light show, remember that less is better. If you have it going on and on, it is going to give people a headache. You want to use if sparingly for the best effect. Just like anything else, constant exposure to something makes it less special. If you only use your strobe light for a few songs or perhaps as just part of a few songs, the effect will go over much better. If your audience feels overwhelmed by it, or perhaps develops a headache every time they come to see you, they may just stop coming.
